2 new pillows, “on the blinks”, coldest December in 52 years

Entries from Mary’s journal, October thru December 1932 . . .

[Wednesday] October 26, 1932

Framed horseshoe, made out of seeds. Made by Mary’s mother, Mrs. Eva Rumping, while visiting her family at No. Vernon, Indiana, in 1890,

I made me 2 new pillows, 1 from goose feathers & the other chicken. That gives me 6 pillows. My feather bed Mother gave me in 1901 and 2 pillows both from goose feathers she plucked from her geese & made. They have light blue new ticking on with white rick rack sewed on ends. The chicken feathers has green velvet on end.

Mrs. Lizzie Korting, date uknown

Mrs. Lizzie Korting and Ernest Korting and I were down to Mrs. Carl Baumbers today and enjoyed the day. Frances and family, Mrs. Ocar Scota’s family too. Christie was handy sure while my knee put me on the blinks for house work. This is a grand fall so far, no snow any place just a bit back on bald mt. Nothing like it ever before in this vicinity or [illegible]. I’ve lived here the past 53 yrs. The boys are going to cut wood for Mr. Jack Walker tomorrow, who is ill. Over 20 men cut, sawed, split over 8 to 10 loads of wood, gave some to Jim Miller, Sam [Gun?] and Mrs. Bell Vague.
